TFC Casting Resin Color Pastes feature a very high pigment concentration, allowing our TFC PU (polyurethane) and TFC EP (epoxy) casting resins to be colored in the desired shade.

TFC Casting Resin Colors are based on a non-reactive binder and are suitable for both our TFC PU and TFC EP casting resins.

The TFC PU EP Casting Resin Color Pastes offer exceptional color strength and brilliance, offering users a wide range of application possibilities.

Processing Instructions

To be able to recreate a defined color mixture in the same color shade, it is recommended to record the mixing ratio of the color paste and casting resin used.

If possible, the desired amount of color paste should first be mixed into the Base / A component. Only then should the Catalyst / B component be added.
Only then does the processing time begin. It is recommended to mix a smaller amount as a test batch to determine the correct ratio of color paste, component A, and component B to achieve the desired color.
The mixing ratio recorded in this way is then transferred to the larger total batch to be processed.

Recommended Addition Amounts

TFC Casting Resin Colors are very highly pigmented. Only a small amount is required:

Normal coverage, opaque application: 2% - 2.5% (based on the total amount)
Transparent / semi-transparent application: 0.5% - 1.5% (based on the total amount)
Maximum addition: 5% (based on the total amount)

Powder pigment or color paste?

Color pigments are color powders that are naturally or synthetically produced. The difficulty with powder pigments lies in dissolving or mixing; color pockets and streaks can form, and a uniformly colored result is not achieved. If the powder pigments have a high specific gravity, i.e., are significantly heavier than the casting resin, this can lead to the pigments sinking before the casting resin is fully cured.

To avoid these hurdles, premixed color pastes are a good option, as they are easier to measure and mix. A color paste requires a suitable carrier material that does not react with the casting resin: The chemistry must be right, otherwise incompatibilities will occur.

Comparison: Unsuitable Colors

Acrylic Paint
Acrylic paint is predominantly water-based. Water content is incompatible with PU (polyurethane) and EP (epoxy) casting resins. This can result in streaks or dull surfaces, or the curing of the casting resins may be impaired.

Watercolors / Watercolor Paints
Watercolors and watercolor paints generally have a lower pigment content and are also water-based. Therefore, larger amounts are required for coloring, resulting in similar problems as with acrylic paints.

Oil Paint
The oils or lipids used in oil paints do not bond with the casting resins, which regularly leads to clumping. Oil paint is therefore not suitable as an additive.
